NANCY JACK

Nancy Jack is a Scottish artist who has been based in Sitges, Spain, since 2012.

In this current series of paintings, she tries to capture the effects of water and sunlight on the figure, both underwater and above.

One beautiful afternoon at the pool in 2013, she was struck by the ribbons of sunlight and interesting distortions affecting her daughter through the moving water. She grabbed her camera and took numerous photos of her in the water, in hopes of finding inspiration for a new painting.
That was the beginning of a series of ‘underwater’ paintings, an exploration that continues to fascinate her today.

Nancy tries to recreate the quiet tranqulity of water and nature in days spent sinking and floating, still and peaceful. Her paintings are inspired by her new home in Catalonia and the continual search for the feeling of the sun on her face and warm summer days at the pool or beach. They are an escape, a subtle reprieve from the day-to-day.

• Art teacher, primary and secondary, Various schools and venues around Barcelona including The British School of Barcelona and The Olive Tree School. Also very successful online art classes free to all during the pandemic via Instagram and Zoom

1998-2012— Art director, Nickelodeon & Children’s BBC

• Art Directing: - Designing sets, making props, managing art department teams, including painters, runners, and carpenters. Writing Risk assessment reports. My production credits include Dick ‘n Dom in da Bungalow and Blue Peter.
